Ref Shortage Concern Looming For High School Football Season

As high school football comes back during the pandemic, there's a concern about a possible shortage of referees. The average age of an official is over-50, which puts them in danger of catching the coronavirus. Mike Fitch, who heads the Texas Association of Sports Officials, says many refs plan to sit this season out to be safe. There may be a push to change some games to Thursdays and Saturdays so referees will be available.
